The East River is a tidal strait in New York City, connecting Long Island Sound to the Upper New York Bay and the Atlantic Ocean. It is approximately 16 kilometers (10 miles) long and separates the island of Manhattan from the boroughs of Queens and Brooklyn in the state of New York.
