Famous British stage and film actor, Sir Ralph (pronounced Rafe) Richardson co-founded the Old Vic theatre company with Sir Laurence Olivier. As well as a prolific and outstanding career in the theatre, Richardson starred in many films, both in Britain and America, from the 1930s onwards. An intensely private man, he was married and died in 1983. (The Fallen Idol was one of many films in which he played the lead rôle, this British movie (1948) was directed by Carol Reed from a Graham Greene short story. It was said to be one of Richardson's favourite films).
