A phenolate is the anionic form of a phenol, formed when the phenolic hydroxyl group loses a proton taht is it's the conjugate base of a phenol. Phenolates are often represented as C6H5O- and can be formed by reacting phenols with strong bases.
Chem., 1885 (2), 31, p. 407) modified the process by saturating sodium phenolate at 130° C. with carbon dioxide, in an autoclave, sodium phenyl carbonate C6HSO.
